Environmental Policy

The company Alfa Athanasios D. Koukoutaris SA is committed to operate with absolute respect for the environment and to its social partners, to fully comply with the applicable legislation and to promote environmental responsibility and sensitivity both from the side of the administration and of their employees.

Alfa’s environmental policy is based on the protection of the environment and the principles of Sustainable Development. It has also developed an environmental management program based on the following principles which is committed to continue improving:

• Compliance with applicable legislation

• Cooperation with licensed companies

• Installation and operation of special hot water and air supply systems

• Training and continuous improvement

• Environment committee

The operation of the company is fully compatible with the applicable environmental community and national legislation. Also, cooperates with companies that have all necessary permits and follow management practices in accordance with legislation on waste management (collection, transport, recycling, utilization, disposal). Staff is informed and sensitized to environmental management issues as the company’s goals can only be succeed with the participation of every employee. Finally, to achieve the above, an environmental committee operates to monitor and implement the company’s environmental policy.

The quality assurance manager and the environmental committee are authorized to coordinate, implement, control and inform the administration about the performance of the company’s environmental system.

Τhe total number of employees are encouraged to participate in this ongoing environmental evolution which benefits the same, wider area, fellow residents and society.

About organic waste, Athanasios D. Koukoutaris SA, has installed cooling container for its deposition, preventing their sepsis but also unpleasant smells. As a result, the increase of microbiological load is prevented and the risk of contamination to workers as well as nearby areas is reduced.

Management of energy consumption and its reduction are important parameters of the environmental responsibility too.  

The company has installed at its industrial facilities in Kozani, solar panels on the roof of estimated total power 999,58kWp and estimated average total produced energy 1,313,988.65kWh/year. Solar panels are LUXOR-Eco line half-cell mono-crystalline with power 530W. Bases of solar panels are SOLAR-AS186.2P.25. Power conservations (inverter) are Solar Inverter PVS-100-TL. The electrical interconnection panel of solar panels system is ABB. The system will prevent the release of 1,299.454 tons CO2, which requires approximately 100,058 trees for its absorption.

For about 10 years now, Alfa shows sensitivity to environmental issues and has gradually installed in various sections of its facilities, technological equipment to reduce electrical energy and LPG. Specifically, it has installed heat recovery systems and solar panels to produce to hot water for use and assist the heating system.

➢ 20 solar panels, which have vacuum tube technology, have been installed by Green Solar,

➢ Oil and water alternates have been installed in the air compressor system,

➢ Ammonia/water-water/water exchangers are installed in ammonia compressor system.

Our company replaced the fluorescent lamps with LED technology lamps in the central facilities.

Electricity consumption with fluorescent lamps: 410,400KWh/year

Electricity consumption with LED technology lamps: 164,160KWh/year

Saving Electricity: 246.240KWh/year

Reduction of electrical consumption only from lighting sources saves 174.64 tons of CO2 per year, which requires approximately 13,475 trees to absorb.

Athanasios D. Koukoutaris SA is committed to the protection of forests and its organisms. It makes sure to cooperate with suppliers that comply with Alfa’s standards and policies schemes (PEFC, FSC). The goal is to contribute as much as possible to the target of zero deforestation and biodiversity safety. In addition, the company chooses recyclable and recycling packaging materials to comply with EU-wide transition to recyclability and use of post-industrial & post-consumer packaging materials.

Finally, Alfa has joined the program of alternative waste management collection and pays annually financial contributions that correspond to the quantities of packaging it has available on the market.

Moreover, it has carried out an ATEX study (possibility of an explosive atmosphere) and noise tests internally and externally (the external ones are also classified in the category of environmental pollution).

In annual environmental policy review the company checks its environmental impact. The results monitor Alfa’s goals to reduce wastes and increase recycling in the following productive year.
